What is a sensory tent?
A sensory tent is a child sized space designed to engage the senses gently: soft light, sound, texture and a clear edge between inside and out. For some children that means somewhere to play a story out loud. For others it's somewhere to go quiet when the room gets loud. Both are the same tent, used two ways.
Most sensory tents stop at a fabric shell. PODSgo carries the whole experience: colour changing light you control, a themed soundscape, and a Professor PODS audio story set in that world.
Not all play tents are created equal
- Sensory lighting, on your terms. Colour you control by remote or smart home device, so it can glow deep sea blue for play or settle to one calm colour for winding down.
- Sound and story. Every theme has its own soundscape, plus audio stories and eBooks in the free PODS Play app.
- A world that changes. Adventure Jackets lift off and swap over, so the submarine becomes a jungle when your explorer's tastes move on.
- The most compact POD we make. 90 cm x 90 cm x 115 cm, a flat pack adventure that fits a normal bedroom, a book corner or the boot of the car for a weekend at the grandparents.
- British designed in Brighton, by parents, designers and dreamers who are mostly wannabe astronauts.
Same tent, a whole new universe
The Adventure Jacket is the theme. Take the submarine off, put a jungle on, and the same PODSgo becomes somewhere new. The range keeps growing: Sub Aqua Quest, Galactic Space Adventure, Rumble in the Jungle, Sunset Savanna Safari, Walking With Dinosaurs, Magical Princess Palace, Polar Ice Igloo, a Manchester City stadium, plus Blackout and Whiteout for explorers who'd rather bring their own imagination.
Extra Adventure Jacket sets are £45. Browse the PODSgo Adventure Jackets.
Story time just got immersive
Scan the QR code in the box and the PODS Play app opens up the world you've bought into: a free Professor PODS story set in that adventure, the soundscape to go with it, and a digital passport that collects a stamp for every story and a visa for every Adventure Jacket. Professor PODS and Bea the Badger do the telling. There's a joke or two in there for whoever's listening from the doorway.
Where PODS end up
Bedrooms and playrooms, mostly. But also classrooms and calm corners, nurseries, respite centres, clinic waiting rooms and hotel lobbies. Inclusivity is woven into the design rather than added on: for one, for all.
- Schools and nurseries: see learning PODS for schools, or read why PODSgo works for primary and prep pupils.
- Sensory and therapy settings: the larger inflatable Therapy PODS take a bigger room and a bigger group.
- Want the full size inflatable version at home? Meet the Sensory PODS range.
Size, safety and what's in the box
- Size: 90 cm x 90 cm x 115 cm, the most compact POD in the range.
- Build: a flat pack adventure with a sturdy frame. Not inflatable.
- In the bundle (£125): the PODSgo, an inner and outer Adventure Jacket, a themed zip on door, sensory lighting controlled by remote or smart home device, a memory foam mat for settling in, a pilot's passport, and a free Professor PODS story with its soundscape in the app.
- Safety: tested to EN71 Part 2 (flammability) and EN71 Part 3 (migration of certain elements), CE marked, and EN 62115 for electric toys. Certificates available on request.
Sensory tent questions, answered
What age is PODSgo for?
It's designed with 18 months to around 8 years in mind, which is when most children grow out of a play space. Older siblings and the occasional adult have been known to climb in anyway.
How big is it, and does it have to stay up?
90 cm x 90 cm x 115 cm, so it sits comfortably in a bedroom corner. It's a flat pack adventure, so it comes down and packs away when you need the floor back, and you can take it with you.
Can I change the theme later?
Yes, that's the whole idea. Adventure Jacket sets are £45 and swap over on the same PODSgo, so one purchase keeps up with changing tastes rather than being outgrown.
Is a sensory tent suitable for autistic children or children with additional needs?
PODS began with disability in the family, so inclusivity sits in the design rather than on the label. Many families use a PODSgo as a calm space to reset, away from a busy room, with the light held on one steady colour. It's a household toy for every family, not specialist equipment.
What does the app cost?
The PODS Play app is free, and every Adventure Bundle comes with a free Professor PODS story set in that world. More standalone adventures in the same world can be unlocked later, each a whole tale in its own right.
Can schools and nurseries buy by invoice?
Yes. Schools can pay by invoice or purchase order, and for several units we'll put a quote together. Email hello@podsplay.com or call +44 (0)3302 232 454.
What's the difference between PODSgo and the inflatable PODS?
PODSgo is the compact one, at 90 cm x 90 cm x 115 cm. The inflatable PODS are 1.8 m across and 1.8 m tall with a domed roof, and Therapy PODS are larger again at 2.3 m in every direction, built for sensory and therapy settings.
How do the Adventure Jackets attach?
Inner and outer jackets fix on with velcro, and the themed door zips on and off. Changing worlds is a job for a grown up and a cup of tea, not a toolbox.
